Wisconsin's Early College Program program allows public high school students in grades 9-12 who meet certain requirements to take postsecondary courses at an institution of higher education. Institute of higher education means an institution within the University of Wisconsin System, a tribally controlled college, or a private, nonprofit institution of higher education located in the state.
Wisconsin's Start College Now allows juniors and seniors to attend a Wisconsin technical college. In both programs, approved courses count toward high school graduation and college credit.
These programs open the door to greater learning opportunities for motivated students considering a technical career, wishing to begin college early, or preparing themselves to enter the workforce immediately after high school graduation.
Within these programs, students do not pay for courses if the school board determines the course qualifies for high school credit and is not comparable to a course already offered in the school district. If approved by the school board, the student can receive both high school and college credit upon successful completion of the course.
See Mrs. Bowe for specific applications.
