Second grade is an exciting year for our students. They are continuing to develop their ability to learn to read quickly and accurately, mastering their additions and subtraction facts, and writing complete sentences with correct punctuation.

Science units include: Sound and Light, Science in the Kitchen, Dinosaurs, and The Great Outdoors. In Social Studies we focus on learning about types of communities and how they are the same and different, the difference between wants and needs, how goods are produced, and map skills including studying the continents and landforms.

Highlights of the year include:

  • Learning about the life cycle of frogs
  • Frog jumping event
  • Midelfort Clinic Tour
  • Field Trip to the Ice Age Center
  • Dinosaur research and report
  • Studying the Wisconsin State Symbols

Daily Schedule:
8:00-8:15 Homeroom
8:15-9:45 Reading
9:45-10:00 Recess
10:00-10:30 Accelerated Reading
10:30-11:00 Math
11:30-12:00 Recess
12:00-12:30 Lunch
12:30-1:00 Music or Phy Ed
1:00-1:35 Spelling
1:35-1:50 Recess
1:50-2:20 Language Arts
2:20-3:00 Social Studies or Science
3:00-3:05 Prep for dismissal

Art, Library, and Guidance are scheduled separately.

1 box of Kleenex
24 pencils
10 red ballpoint pens
$1 for Colfax Schools Go Home Folder
1 book bag or backpack
1 school box or plastic bag with zipper (for pencils and other supplies)
1 box of 8 or 16 crayons (only for Math)
1 box of 16 or larger set of crayons
1 box of Classic markers (No Sharpies)
1 bottle of liquid glue
1 large glue stick or 2-3 small glue sticks
1 wide line spiral notebook
1 plastic folder w/ pockets
1 scissors
2-3 large erasers
colored pencils
